How a Hot-Dip Galvanized Scissor Lift Is Manufactured
Corrosion resistance is one of the most important requirements for lifting equipment installed outdoors. To ensure long service life, many customers choose hot-dip galvanized scissor lifts instead of painted structures.
This project is a custom hydraulic scissor lift with a 5-ton capacity and a platform size of 4m × 2.5m. The manufacturing process involves several key steps.
Step 1: Frame Fabrication and Welding
The platform frame, base frame, and scissor structure are fabricated from heavy-duty steel components and welded according to engineering drawings.
Accurate welding is essential because the scissor mechanism must maintain proper alignment during lifting and lowering operations.
Step 2: Drilling Vent and Drainage Holes
Before hot-dip galvanizing, holes are drilled in specific locations of the steel structure.
Many people ask why these holes are necessary.
The answer is simple: hot-dip galvanizing involves immersing the entire steel structure into molten zinc. If enclosed steel sections do not have vent and drainage holes, air can become trapped inside the structure, preventing zinc from entering.
Without proper openings:
Zinc may not reach internal surfaces.
Air pressure may build up during galvanizing.
The coating may become uneven.
Corrosion protection may be incomplete.
The holes allow molten zinc to enter, circulate, and drain freely, ensuring both internal and external surfaces receive a protective zinc coating.
Step 3: Hot-Dip Galvanizing
After preparation, the entire structure is immersed in molten zinc.
The zinc forms a metallurgical bond with the steel surface, creating a durable protective layer that helps resist rust, moisture, and harsh outdoor conditions.
Compared with conventional paint coatings, hot-dip galvanizing generally offers longer service life and lower maintenance requirements.
Step 4: Assembly
Once galvanizing is completed, hydraulic cylinders, pins, hoses, electrical components, and the power unit are installed.
All moving parts are carefully assembled and inspected.
Step 5: Testing and Commissioning
Before shipment, the lift undergoes functional testing to verify:
Smooth lifting and lowering
Hydraulic system performance
Structural stability
